“zedeus,” in an update dated September 7 on Nitter.net:
On 24 August 2026 cease and desist letters were sent by X Corp. demanding a permanent takedown of Nitter instances and the project’s repository.
Following legal advice, the Nitter project will continue. This instance and others will be back up and running shortly. An announcement will be made within a week, once we’re able to reveal more information.
A similar message was added to the Nitter GitHub repository (in a commit entitled “Nitter lives”).
I stumbled across this while testing out the aforelinked Litterbox. Imagine my delight at clicking an XCancel link and seeing it load.
Perhaps the law and logic of fair use have prevailed, if only briefly.
