App developer Zhenyi Tan launched a new tool for people who want to limit their X/Twitter exposure:

Litterbox is a free Safari extension that opens x.com links in a popup. The idea is you open it, take a look, gag a little, then close the lid

A perfect name and description that accurately captures the garbage experience that is X/Twitter. It’s especially welcome in the wake of the demise of XCancel.

It might even survive Elon Musk’s churlishness:

Litterbox doesn’t send your cookies when you open those popups, because of course. It uses the same API X uses for its website embeds. I don’t think they’ll kill the website embed feature. But if they do, it will be very funny.

Enabling the extension is a bit finicky, but it works perfectly once configured.

Tan has established quite the niche, building several apps and extensions designed to de-enshittify the daily web experience, even if just a little bit.
