Why No AI?

whynoai.info is a single-serving website from Dave Rahardja itemizing fifteen reasons (so far) to stand against AI, complete with supporting links. From “It’s theft” to “It enriches bad people” to “It’s generic slop,” there’s nothing on this list I disagree with—yet I still find myself using, and even enjoying, AI. I find it to be a valuable tool in several contexts, from proofreading to information retrieval to programming. I don’t much like the way we got here or who is profiting, and I fully expect the bubble will burst sooner than later. And I’m not out here sharing “reasons to use AI.” But the technology itself is fascinating and will, I believe, in the long run prove beneficial to society. Some may call this naïveté or hypocrisy; I prefer to call it critical appreciation.
