Shawn McCreesh, Tyler Pager, and Hamed Aleaziz, reporting for The New York Times (gift link):
President Trump’s new press secretary, Katie Zacharia, was forced out of her role Friday after five days on the job, a rare reversal by the White House that capped a week of upheaval.
That’s just half a Scaramucci. We now have a new unit to measure time-to-termination and time-based incompetence: a Zacharia. Our thanks to Anthony Scaramucci for his service.
Usage:
- The judicial nominee was so universally panned, he lasted only a Zacharia.
- The cease fire was in place for barely a Zacharia before falling apart.
- If the new Speaker of the House lasts three Zacharia, it’ll be a miracle.
Note that Zacharia is both singular and plural: one Zacharia; three Zacharia.
The use of Scaramucci is now considered obsolete and should be replaced by an appropriate number of Zacharia. Instead of a Scaramucci, use two Zacharia.
(Exception: when referring to Anthony Scaramucci’s time in his role as White House communications director, that remains a Scaramucci.)
