Lake Ontario Rename is a ‘Desperate and Flaccid Stunt’

Kiley Wren, News10NBC:

Rochester City Council has signed a proclamation that Rochester will continue to use the name Lake Ontario in all official local capacities, despite President Donald Trump’s executive order to rename it “Lake America.” […]

City council says the Lake Ontario name represents “centuries of culture and tradition,” and that “No serious person from the Native Tribes or U.S. and Canadian cities which share the Lake will ever … call Lake Ontario ‘Lake America.”

The full Proclamation (PDF) is a beaut, and includes lines like:

Whereas: This desperate and flaccid stunt by the President is a clear distraction from the issues that matter most to U.S. voters: the failing economy, housing, affordability and, lest we forget, President Trump’s unwanted and unwarranted war with Iran

That’s a good phrase, a fine phrase. “Desperate and flaccid” is a fine phrase.
