Apple ‘Find My’ Gets Custom Durations for Location Sharing

Apple Newsroom, in an announcement introducing “innovative features and intelligence experiences across services”:

Coming this fall, users will have more control over how they share their location with friends and family using Find My, with new options to share for a custom duration — either for a number of minutes, hours, or days — or even set a date and time for when sharing will stop. This makes it easy for users to share their location while attending an event, or for a long weekend getaway with friends and family.

Finally.

It was only this past weekend that my wife and I were lamenting the limited options offered for sharing location when traveling with friends. “For One Hour,” “Until End of Day,” or “Indefinitely” were always woefully insufficient. I’ve never understood the logic behind those three choices.

There are handful of other new features enhancing various Apple service, including Enhanced Flyover and Local Lists in Maps; Apple Cash bill splitting, and creating passes from physical cards in Wallet; and video “podcasts” on macOS and tvOS and improved search in the Podcast app. iCloud Shared Albums also adds full-resolution sharing (yay!) and enables non-Apple users to join contribute photos.
