‘Controversial’ Stephen Miller Elevated to White House Chief of Staff

David Smith, The Guardian:

Stephen Miller, Donald Trump’s most controversial aide and the architect of his sweeping immigration crackdown, will become his new White House chief of staff days after Republicans lost control of the US Congress in US midterm elections.

The president announced the extraordinary appointment on Friday, confirming that Susie Wiles – his current chief of staff, and the first woman to serve in the role – had been ousted.

In a social media post, Trump called Miller, 41, “one of my most trusted advisors” and praised Wiles for doing “an outstanding job”.

Chris Cameron, The New York Times:

Mr. Miller, 41, has advised Mr. Trump for nearly a decade, and has either authored or significantly contributed to many of the president’s most high-profile moves. Those include separation of migrant families at the border; the 2017 Muslim travel ban; directing the government to stifle critics of Mr. Trump; the ending of nearly all U.S. refugee programs; the widespread pressure campaign against American universities; extrajudicial boat strikes that have killed hundreds; and purges of officials deemed insufficiently loyal to Mr. Trump.

Democrats and Republicans alike are outraged by this appointment. Donald Trump truly is our Unifier-in-Chief.
